Launch Recap - August 2nd, 2008 The launch Saturday was great! We found it to be a typical August day in Florida - hot! Winds were either from the west which would have typically meant no tangle with the trees to the West of the field. Still, we did have two flights into the woods but both were recovered. Apparently, the winds at higher altitudes were also higher speeds. Ryan lost his Big Red Love Rocket to the east, out of the field! We also found a wet section in the lower parts of the field, enough to actually see Tom D's Sputnik splashdown! We tried to replicate the "kersplash" of the foam ball in the lake part of the field, but the wind changed and drove it to dry ground. Oh well. Our last launch of the day was Marc's sweet little Rawhide on a C6-7 engine. We saw the upward trajectory probably to 1000 feet, but lost it in the sun. Winston, our contest meister, suggested that we do another streamer spotlanding contest. Malcom B's Guardian came in first with 31', Kyle C's Alpha III at 69' 9", and Tom D's Lawn Dart at just over 85'. Chris brought his newly constructed monocopter, and gave us quite a nice little flight with it. Carl got his Rubicon off the pad with a good igniter in an Aerotech E18 motor. Nice flights guys! Brian C, on the other hand, had trouble with the copperhead igniter igniting the Aerotech F20 in his Warthog. Other fun "mentionables" were several flying cubes, Russ's Lampshade, Roger's Alpha III video project with several attempts to get his Oracle and Alpha into the air at the same time to video the Alpha in flight from a very different vantage point.  Jason C also launched his big "Hi Silver" on an E9.  It went way south, but gained enough altitude to make it out of the southern jungle to the field to the east.
