Launch Recap - January 5th, 2008

We had a slightly smaller turn out than usual (possibly due to the New Years holiday), but that didn't limit the fun or number of flights!

In addition, we had guests from the Seminole Chronicle covering the launch. An outstanding article with pictures covering two whole pages appeared in the Jan. 10th print edition. The article doesn't appear to be online yet, but watch this space- we'll post a link when it becomes available.

The January event was B-motor Parachute Duration and it proved to be both interesting and challenging for the contestants.

The wind was originating from the Northeast so the range was setup in the south east corner to maximize the safe recovery area. Adding to the challenge were variable gusts and unpredictable upper level winds.

Once again, our very own 'Steely-eyed rocket engineer', Kyle Chung topped all comers with a 43.98 second Alpha III flight!

Dan Woller took second with a 29.55 second performance, followed by Marc Doolittle's NSA Starship at 21.85 seconds.

Malcom Boniface also turned in some good numbers with his Shuttle Express (minus the gliders).

Congratulations to all!

Other notable flights of the day included Carl Campbell's scale Mercury Redstone; Roger & Bracha's Akavish (on a G38); and Chris Heffron's Invisible Rocket (now known as the Invisible TREE Rocket). Chris also successfully clustered three C6-7's in his scratch Metis-3.

The 'tallest rocket of the day' award goes to Marc Doolittle's Estes Mean Machine which made an impressive E9-4 flight.

Launch Recap - June 27th, 2009
The launch Saturday was  a typical warm day in Florida!  Winds were from the west which would have typically meant no tangle with the trees to the West of the field.  Storm activity in the area got us a bit damp once, and cut... [More]
Launch Recap - June 6th, 2009
Unfortunately upon arriving at the field, we discovered the recent rains had not had time to drain away and it was too swampy for a safe launch. The tall grass hid the water from general view, but anywhere you stepped, was 2 or 3"... [More]
Launch Recap - May 2nd, 2009
After forcing a scrub for April, the drought index dropped enough to allow our May launch to proceed as scheduled. Attendance started off light, but steadily grew thru the morning. The official event for the day was gliders, but the National... [More]

We live in Florida for this kind of day!   Winds from the North/ North East on this beautiful day were significant and contributed to several smaller rockets leaving the field and entering the woods/brush.  As far as I know,... [More]
