Launch Recap - November 3rd, 2007 Greetings after a BEAUTIFUL Saturday of fun in the sun flying rockets!  The moderate temperatures finally arrived!  Only the moderate Southerly (up to 10 MPH) winds gave us some challenges and we did lose a few rockets to the trees and underbrush to the south.  Parachutes on small rockets was simply not a good idea, nor was parachutes on larger rockets a good idea for that matter! Today also marked the beginning of our informal club contest events.  Speaking of marks, Marc Doolittle, despite a long search in the bushes,  recovered his B engine streamer "Rawhide" to take the contest with a "best of 3 attempts" time of 42.39 seconds!   Congratulations Marc!  Chris H. made a valiant effort with his Small Black Silver, but to our knowledge, did not recover. Our turnout today was about average in terms of numbers but certainly not with regard to flying!  Lawn Dart III really did lawn dart after kicking the motor on a sticky airframe separation.  Dan's Def Leppard also did a core sample, but we rectified both of the sticky points, flew again, and managed to achieve correct deployment of BOTH recovery systems.  Remember the safety briefing where deployment of recovery systems accounts for 75% of all "accidents".  Gotta keep working on the "comes back down" part!  Good Job Dan on getting your on the field repair to work so well.  Several suggested a name change for  Tom's Lawn Dart rocket to help "rectify" the recovery problem.  The suggestion is still in consideration!   Besides the contest, we had two Sputnik Models appear--in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first manmade orbital object,   We also had a couple of Mercury rockets- Brian C with his MMX Mercury/Redstone, and Tom D with his Mercury Atlas Friendship 7, and Explorer 1, and Little Joe 1 celebrated the 50 year mark.  Looking to the future, Russ M did a nice Bottoms down flight with his Mars Lander and Marc D. flew his Space Ship One.  There would have been more celebration flights, had the winds been more cooperative.  The larger Mercury/Redstone's, X-15, and Space Shuttle rockets didn't come out as planned.   Come prepared in December for another great day of flying.
