Launch Recap - November 6th, 2010

Florida's fall did arrive and this launch in full display!    Although the cool temps are particularly ideal for Rocket launching,  the winds made flying a challenge.  We decided to carry on given that the drought indexes came down nearly 100 points, and the green fields were really nice to see.  The egg lofting practice was also challenging.  We did fly eggs, and also found that getting them to deliver the eggs back safely to ground with no scramble was not as easy .

Welcome all who joined us for the first time.  Thank you for joining us to watch and learn.  Glad to have  home schooling families too!

All in all did find some high speed upper wind currents- to go with the lower level ones.  Some rockets are still out there. :(   Russ lost his O2O Estes propelled by a B6 in the south east forest.  We thought we knew where it landed, but a grey rocket was just a little illusive.   Some new fliers were brave too, flew their pen camera- and recovered it despite a loss of the nose cone on the payload section.  They used streamer on the pen to identify it in the neighboring field!  Many fliers still recovered on chutes, but a number of fliers pulled out the streamers to ensure good recovery.

I thought that I lost my egg lofter after the parachute didn't eject,  and landed on the edge of the field, but it was hiding in a bush.  The egg survived after bouncing from the limb on the shock cord for a bungy bounce!  Rick and Sophie made their Eggscaliber egglofter drop in on two parachutes, a good design to protect precious cargo!

Jason and Leif drag raced their Sonic and Midnight express birds on a  B-6.  The winner was hard to call.  Both recovered just off the grass south of the field.  Most of the other flights were nicely done, just as planned.

We look forward to have you back in December!
